Bad Ash Cigar Company

A neighborhood cigar shop and lounge on Ventura Boulevard, kept by Eric Zimmermann for the people who like to sit down, talk awhile, and light something worth remembering.

There are no bad cigars, only better ones.

The shop

A Valley address with the feel of a regular table.

Most of the people who come through the door live nearby. Bad Ash Cigar Company sits on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, a cigar shop in front and a lounge that invites you to stay. Owner Eric Zimmermann greets guests the way a host would, curious about who just walked in and glad to point them toward a stick that fits the hour.

Ask him how he is doing and he is fond of saying it is another day in paradise. That easy warmth is the house style. In February 2023, Cigar Aficionado featured the shop in its Where to Smoke series, describing a friendly neighborhood lounge and a well stocked walk-in.

Another day in paradise.

The lounge

Leather, lamplight, and time enough for a slow burn.

Settle in

Inside, the room is built for lingering. Overstuffed leather chairs sit under muted lamps. Wood plank walls and a front bar give the place a rustic, lived-in calm. A few large televisions keep golf, football, and the odd match within view, without turning the lounge into a sports bar.

The patio is the other half of the house. Palms, string lights, a fountain, a grill, and heaters make an outdoor room that works on a bright afternoon and on a cool Valley night. It is the sort of backyard sanctuary that is hard to find along a busy boulevard, with parking in the rear so you are not circling the block.

Stay awhile

Come for a quiet hour with a book of matches and a well chosen cigar, or bring a few friends and take the patio. Either way, the point is the same: a comfortable chair, decent conversation, and no rush to leave.

The photographs in this section show the shop itself. The wide still below is an atmospheric image prepared for this preview. It is not a photograph of the room.

The humidor

A walk-in for familiar names and quieter finds.

The selection is the other reason people become regulars. The walk-in holds the houses most smokers already trust, alongside smaller makers that rotate through as boxes come and go. Eric is happy to guide the undecided, whether the night calls for something mild or a cigar with more weight.

When Cigar Aficionado visited in 2023, the shelves included names such as these (inventory changes, and the walk-in is worth seeing in person):

Padrón, Arturo Fuente, Oliva, My Father, La Flor Dominicana, Tatuaje, Liga Privada, AJ Fernandez, Rocky Patel, E.P. Carrillo, Davidoff, Aging Room, La Aurora, Partagás, Montecristo, Romeo, Caldwell, Southern Draw, and Victor Calvo.

This website does not list prices, take orders, or ship cigars. The shop is the place to see what is in the case today.

Walk-ins are part of the rhythm here. Pull around back if you can. Stay as long as the cigar asks you to.
